Ranger College Softball has a long and storied past. Beginning the program in 1986, Ron Butler created the team with success on his mind. Originally, he did not want to be the coach of the RC Softball team. He said he would recruit but did not want to coach. However, he fell in love with the players and their spirit and drive as he recruited them and decided to coach them after all. Caiden Cuellar came up with the biggest play of the night for the Ranger Bulldogs on the final play. The freshman defensive back tackled a Perrin receiver at the Ranger 2 as time expired off the clock to preserve a wild 42-41 victory over Perrin-Whitt despite lightning and high winds. The Pirates’ had attempted a last-second 35-yard pass on fourth down in an attempt to steal a win in front of a large P-WHS crowd.
The Gorman Lady Panthers continued to shine on the trails this season. The squad raced its way to 11th overall at the Brownwood Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. Overall, the GHS girls were 11th in the 18-team field. Hadli Hampton paced the Lady Panthers in the race. She finished the race in 77th position.
