The Baird Bears scored four times in the first quarter on Friday and then held on to claim a 6324 victory over the Ranger Bulldogs in a six-man showdown played in front of a large crowd at O.C. Warden Stadium.
With the win, Baird snapped Ranger’s 4-game win streak and dropped the sixth-ranked Bulldogs to 4-2 for the year. Turnovers and penalties proved to be costly for Ranger. The Bulldogs fumbled twice in the opening frame – both of which led to Baird touchdowns. They also committed several costly miscues that stalled three drives in the red zone. After racing to a 25-0 lead in the first, the Bears got a rushing touchdown early in the second and pushed its lead to 33-0 before Ranger got its offense in gear. James Uhlhorn posted the Bulldogs’ first touchdown via a 13-yard run at the 6:24 mark of the second. He tacked on a 47-yard kick-off return later in the frame to pull RHS to within 41-16. Ranger will return to action this Friday when they host rival Strawn. The game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
