Cisco Lady Loboes Area Champions

2024 Cisco Lady Loboes Bi-District Champions

The Cisco Lady Loboes and the Gorman Lady Panthers can officially say it what everyone already knew. They are among the best basketball programs in the Lone Star State.

The Gorman Lady Panthers and Cisco Lady Loboes continued to score points with the state’s pollsters this past week. Both teams were ranked among the best in their respective classifications, according to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Feb. 5 poll.

The Cisco College Women’s Basketball Team is performing better this semester than it has in recent years, ranked fourth in its conference with a 13-6 overall record as of last week. A key component of this record is Kylee Norman of San Antonio, who is not even a member of the team after a knee injury last spring caused her to sit out the fall and spring semester of this season.

The Cisco boys’ and girls’ basketball teams barely had to break a sweat this past week to pick up key district wins. Both squads used s stingy defensive effort to roll to lopsided wins over the Hamin Pied Pipers on Friday.

When Caleb Galvan attended Cisco College six years ago, he wrote in a freshman composition class about his dream of becoming a radio announcer. Today, at the age of 24, he is the full-time radio voice not only of the Cisco High School Loboes in all sports but also for the Cisco College Wranglers in football and basketball.

The Cisco Lady Loboes moved a step closer to the District 10-2A title on Friday by claiming an impressive 61-22 victory over the Hawley Lady Bearcats.

The Cisco College women’s basketball team pulled a surprising upset Thursday, Dec. 7, by defeating Tyler Junior College 67-64. The TJC Apaches had won the national junior college championship in 2022 and had a 7-3 record so far.

Players on the Basketball Team at Cisco College honored their professors at halftime of Tuesday’s (Dec. 5) game with Coastal Bend College at the Cisco campus by presenting gifts. The gifts included a sports thermal mug and a squeezy “stress ball” in the form of a miniature basketball, with the Cisco College logo emblazoned on both.

Christina Baker, the new Assistant Basketball Coach at Cisco College, is coaching her sister Alycia Baker, a transfer student from Panola College.

Postscript: Cisco Loboes won a Bi-District Trophy and will play New Deal in Sweetwater on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 7:00. We hope and pray that Kanon Orsagh is able to play, but everyone appreciated the way everyone held together in spite of losing their valuable leader at QB. Ozona was big and had some hard running backs but our linemen played tough and held their own all night. I am sorry that the linemen are not mentioned more, but it is difficult when there is a mass pile up to see who all is involved, and also some JV players have rotated into the action, but without a program and not knowing who they are I cannot give ample coverage. And for the coaches, I know these plays have names that I don’t know and blocking schemes that are important that I also do not know. Keep winning and I promise to improve also. Addendum: I believe the person who traveled the longest distance to see the game had to be Chip Drumwright who drove from Denver—650 miles.

The Loboes

After two years as captain of the Cisco College Soccer Team, Danish student Freja Hansen played her last Cisco game on Oct. 21 at Chesley Field. Her parents, Per Brendstrup Hansen and Annette Hansen of Copenhagen, Denmark, flew in and watched her score a goal for the team, leading to a 5-1 victory over Dallas Christian College.

1st Quarter With 2:59 left in the first quarter, Cisco led 15 to 0 over Anson. That is about the time I tuned in from the Hazlewood cousins’ house in San Marcos, Texas. I had to miss going to the game to attend a Memorial Service for my ex-wife in Austin. Actually I witnessed the blocked punt for the savety which added 2 points to the already existing defensive TD, making the score 8 to 0. What I saw and heard was Orsagh’s pass to Thompson giving Cisco a first down on the 5-yard line. Illegal procedure made it 1st and goal on the 10. Hart went around RE for a TD, making it, with Proffitt’s kick, 15 to 0. Cordell Harper made the first TD and later scored again on another defensive TD. Kickoff to Anson was made by Parker Williams. It was 1st and 10 on the A40, then 2nd and 1 on the A49. Talon Bruner and others stopped Anson for no gain, for 3rd and 1, then the Loboes stopped the Tigers again and it was 4th and 1, but then up the middle for 1st and 10 on C49. Rains and Hart stopped a LE run and the quarter ended. 2nd Quarter On the C49, it was 2nd down for Anson on C45, then 3rd and 6. Timeout Anson. QB draw made it 1st and 10 on C39. A pass to Desmond was completed for a TD, and with Proffitt’s kick it was 22 to 0 in favor of the Loboes. Kickoff to Anson and the ball was on the A35. Carson Cochran tackled them for a loss. It was 3rd and 17 after Wilburn’s run, then after a completed pass it was 4th and 5, and Anson punted. Thompson received the punt on the C35. Desmond went up the middle and it was 2nd and 9. Then in a short period of time, Anson scored again when they took the ball away from a Cisco runner, making it Cisco 29 and Anson 19. Byrd stopped the extra point. Kickoff to Cisco Carson Cochran fielded the onside kick. A pitch to Hart lost yardage. A personal foul was accessed against Anson for a face mask penalty, no a false start on Anson and it was 1st and 10 on A26. Desmond lost yardage, then a screen to Proffitt made it 3rd and 8 . Loss by Orsagh with 6:26 left. 15 yard penalty moved the ball to the A43. It was 4th and 27 and Cisco punted. Braden Rogers punted it to the coffin corner on the 1 yard line. Anson made 2 yards to the 3, and up the middle to the 6, then called timeout again. Cordell Harper got his second 2 points, when he tackled Anson for a safety, making it 31 to 19. Kicked back to Cisco after the safety. With 3:35 left in the game, Cisco had the ball on the A34. Desmond ran and then Orsagh ran a draw; it was 3rd and 7. Anson called a timeout again. Cisco Loboes defeated Anson

When the Cisco College Wranglers met the New Mexico MIlitary Institute Broncos in Roswell Saturday for the ESPN “Game of the Week,” not even the ESPN announcers could have predicted that the Wranglers would walk away with a 21-10 victory, as the announcers admitted over the air.

1st Quarter Kickoff to Olney made one 1st down and punted to Cisco. Thompson fielded the kick on the Cisco 29. Orsagh made 3 and Hart ran for the 1st down on the Cisco 42. Thompson took a pitch out to the Olney 39. 1st down. Orsagh took it to the 27. 1st down. Silva swept the right end. 1st down on the 3 yd. ln. Pitch back to Hart for the TD. Proffitt made the extra point. It was 7 to 0 with 6:40 left in the 1st Quarter.

Three Cisco College baseball athletes played in the TX-NM Juco All-Star Games this weekend in Dallas. All sophomores, they are, pictured from left, Evan Roach, Dylan Broadway, and Jonny Lowe. On Friday they won their game 4-3, representing Region 5 North vs Region 14 South.

With #66 Talon Bruner, #25 Cody Gayle, and # 22 Noaa Nernandez on the injured list, the Cisco Loboes with 19 or 20 players suited up, and all but 3 starters playing both ways, dominated the Colorado City Wolves 36 to 7, on Friday September 22, 2023. 1st Quarter The Wolves kicked off to the Loboes, with #11 Cole Thompson being stopped on the 26 yd In. #6 Gus Hart went around left end for a 1st down to the 41 yd In. Hart went off RG for 5 to the 46 yd In. A direct snap to #10 Kanon Orsagh netted only 2 yds; it was 3rd and 3 on the Cisco 48 yd In. Hart picked up another 6 for a 1st down. #7 Dillon Silva swung around left end to the 15 or the Wolves, but a penalty brought it back to the Lobo 45 and it was 1st and 16. A swing pass to Silva took the ball to the Wolf 21 yd In and it was 1st and 10. Hart went around LE to the 5, and then on the next carry Hart went up the middle for the TD. Proffitt’s kick was good and it was 7 to 0 Cisco’s favor. There was 8:14 on the clock. The kickoff went to the CC Wolves and they returned it to the 32 yd In. Inis reminds me of another time and another team involving a famous coach from Cisco. His name was Weldon Bailey Chapman. He had winning teams at Cisco High for 9 years developing a reputation for the area as a football power and coaching the original Big Dam Loboes. He went to the Semi-Finals twice with the Loboes in 1924 and 1925, but could never win a State Championship. He later coached at Lubbock and his 1938 team was State Runner-Up, but the 1939 Team won the State Title. Coach Chapman died during the play-offs that last year and they buried him in Cisco and brought the State Title Trophy back and had a ceremony over his grave. That’s not all. The 1939 Lubbock team lost their first 3 games that year and tied the fourth game.
