Andrew Hicks, Sammy Herrera and Jay Oznick all claimed medals last Thursday and helped carry the Eastland Mavericks to fourth in the final team standings at the annual Golden Shoe Relays in Clyde. The Mavericks tallied 82 points in the meet and finished in a tie for fourth overall with Cisco. Both Eastland and Cisco were just one-half point behind Clyde for third.
Heading into the 2023 softball season, everyone expected Hannah Rogers and Justice Fox to be outstanding players. Neither have disappointed.
The Lady Cat golfers competed at Shady Oaks and had tremendous improvement. Ashley Bogner shot her personal best of 91 while Monica Sandoval improved her score. Great job Lady Cat Golfers!

Most of the area’s top track and field athletes will converge on Eastland on Thursday for the running of the 2023 Maverick Relays. The meet will get started at 3:30 p.m. at the EHS track.

The Eastland Mavericks and Ranger Bulldogs both suffered tough losses last week in high school boys’ basketball action.
The Breckenridge High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams went into Friday’s showdown with rival Eastland with a chance to accomplish two goals. First, the BHS squads could keep their postseason hopes alive – and, even sweeter for them – they could put Eastland’s playoff hopes on life support.

The Eastland boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will square off against rival Breckenridge in a key District 8-3A showdown on Friday. The games will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the Buckaroo Special Events Center.
Macie Hood scored 13 points in the final 16 minutes and Jacie Darr added six more on Friday and powered the Eastland Lady Mavericks to an important victory over the Dublin Lady Lions.
Grady Galyean pushed in 20 points and Isaiah Hays and Laike Kennedy both added double-digit efforts on Friday and spurred the Eastland Mavericks to a nail-biting 58-55 victory over the Dublin Lions in front of a large crowd in the EHS gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldog Powerlifting team kicked off the season in Colorado City
The Eastland High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both endured tough outings last Friday by dropping a doubleheader to Comanche.
Not too many teams can drop two out of their last three games and walk off the floor feeling good about it. The Eastland Mavericks can as they played well in all three outings at the Eula Holiday Tournament.
