Andrew Hicks, Sammy Herrera and Jay Oznick all claimed medals last Thursday and helped carry the Eastland Mavericks to fourth in the final team standings at the annual Golden Shoe Relays in Clyde. The Mavericks tallied 82 points in the meet and finished in a tie for fourth overall with Cisco. Both Eastland and Cisco were just one-half point behind Clyde for third.
Oznick highlighted Eastland’s efforts. He picked up medals in three events, including the 200-meter dash, the high jump and triple jump, as well as running second leg on the Mavs’ 4x100-meter relay team that finished third.
Oznick was one of three EHS athletes to finish in the top 10 in the 200. He finished second overall in the race with a time of 24.06 seconds. Cason Browning and Christian Perez were ninth and 10th, respectively.
