The Eastland High School Lady Mavericks will continue their non-district volleyball schedule this week with a pair of key matchups, including a Sept. 1 contest at home with Clyde.

By Tommy Wells The Eastland Mavericks proved themselves among the best 7-on-7 football programs this past week at the 2023 Dave Campbells’ Texas Football 7-on-7 tournament in College Station. Eastland finished second in its pool and advanced to the first round of the single-elimination championship.
By Tommy Wells The Eastland Mavericks will take their shot at nailing down the Texas 7-on-7 Football Championships this week at Veterans Memorial Park in College Station. The Mavericks are one of 32 Division III teams to have qualified for the single-elimination tournament.
The Maverick 7-on-7 Football team qualified for the State Tournament. They qualified by winning a tournament in Abilene on Friday, June 10. The Mavericks will compete in the State 7-on-7 Tournament in College Station on June 22-23. Go Mavericks!
Jay Oznick capped his high school in memorable fashion this past weekend with a stellar showing at the Region I-3A Track and Field Championships. The EHS standout finished in the top 10 in both of his events while competing in front of a large crowd at Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Stadium.

If the 1980s were the golden age of Eastland High School Mavericks’ football program, the 2010’s and 2020’s would certainly have to be considered the silver age as Eastland rolled to a pair of district championships and six postseason appearance from 2016 to 2022.

Andrew Hicks, Sammy Herrera and Jay Oznick all claimed medals last Thursday and helped carry the Eastland Mavericks to fourth in the final team standings at the annual Golden Shoe Relays in Clyde. The Mavericks tallied 82 points in the meet and finished in a tie for fourth overall with Cisco. Both Eastland and Cisco were just one-half point behind Clyde for third.
Heading into the 2023 softball season, everyone expected Hannah Rogers and Justice Fox to be outstanding players. Neither have disappointed.
The Lady Cat golfers competed at Shady Oaks and had tremendous improvement. Ashley Bogner shot her personal best of 91 while Monica Sandoval improved her score. Great job Lady Cat Golfers!

Most of the area’s top track and field athletes will converge on Eastland on Thursday for the running of the 2023 Maverick Relays. The meet will get started at 3:30 p.m. at the EHS track.
