Grady Galyean pushed in 20 points and Isaiah Hays and Laike Kennedy both added double-digit efforts on Friday and spurred the Eastland Mavericks to a nail-biting 58-55 victory over the Dublin Lions in front of a large crowd in the EHS gymnasium.

Macie Hood scored 13 points in the final 16 minutes and Jacie Darr added six more on Friday and powered the Eastland Lady Mavericks to an important victory over the Dublin Lady Lions.

The Cottonwood Musical is gearing up to roll out 2023! Hope you can join us Friday January 27th for this month’s dinner and music. We’ll be serving Texas Chili and/ or Pinto Beans with all the toppings, cornbread, desserts and drinks. It all starts at 5 PM with the Music starting at 5:30. Did you know that California used to be a conservative state, more so than Texas? They had Ronald Reagan for governor. Once he wasn’t governor anymore., it started going south. San Francisco began to dictate policy. Conservatives and Christians didn’t push back. San Francisco pushed the LGBT agenda and took God out of our schools under the guise of “Freedom of Religion.”

Editor, I want to applaud Ronnie White for standing up for what is right. That we have only two genders in this world and it is male and female.

I called a mechanic because my car wouldn’t start. He diagnosed my problem as a bad mirror.

The 91st Criminal District Attorney’s Office would like to update the citizens of Eastland County on the efforts and progress they have made in regard to handling the backlog of cases created by the COVID pandemic.

Brad Kimbrough, of Cisco, is finally hanging up his suit and tie and stepping away from his life’s work at Kimbrough Funeral Home; having retired on Friday, January 6th, 2023. After starting in the funeral industry at age 14 by digging graves in his hometown of Henrietta, TX, Brad worked through the business to learn all the ins and outs. At 17, he and his friend Doyle Davis, (who also grew up to work as a funeral director) drove the local ambulance for Hawkins Funeral Home, and did other jobs around the funeral home. During this time he met and married Sherry Nichols, and together they built their lives in service to others. During the Vietnam War Brad was drafted and stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Because of his many years of working in a funeral home in TX, he was given special permission to work off base for the Striffler- Hamby Funeral Home in Columbus, GA.

Attorney Stephenson added that he sees eye to eye on this issue with Mrs. Wilks.

The Eastland Lady Mavericks pounded out a pair of impressive wins this past weekend and rolled to the girls’ consolation honors at the Eula Holiday Tournament The Lady Mavs, who evened their record at 9-9, opened the threeday tournament on a sour note, falling to Hermleigh, 58-29.

The Huckabay Lady Indians weathered a tough start on Friday and then held on to claim a 45-24 victory in a showdown of two state-ranked Class A girls’ squads.

Not too many teams can drop two out of their last three games and walk off the floor feeling good about it. The Eastland Mavericks can as they played well in all three outings at the Eula Holiday Tournament.

The Eastland High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams both endured tough outings last Friday by dropping a doubleheader to Comanche.
