After 65 Years Service in Funeral Industry: Brad Kimbrough steps away from his Life’s Work

Brad Kimbrough, of Cisco, is finally hanging up his suit and tie and stepping away from his life’s work at Kimbrough Funeral Home; having retired on Friday, January 6th, 2023. After starting in the funeral industry at age 14 by digging graves in his hometown of Henrietta, TX, Brad worked through the business to learn all the ins and outs. At 17, he and his friend Doyle Davis, (who also grew up to work as a funeral director) drove the local ambulance for Hawkins Funeral Home, and did other jobs around the funeral home. During this time he met and married Sherry Nichols, and together they built their lives in service to others. During the Vietnam War Brad was drafted and stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Because of his many years of working in a funeral home in TX, he was given special permission to work off base for the Striffler- Hamby Funeral Home in Columbus, GA.

At the conclusion of his time in the service, he returned to Henrietta and worked for Hawkins Funeral Home until deciding to attend the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Sciences. While in school he worked for Marrs-Mundy-Quill Funeral Home in Dallas, Tx. After graduating he and Sherry moved to Carrolton so he could manage Rhoton-Weiland-Merritt Funeral Home. In February of 1974, Brad moved to Cisco, TX, with his family to manage the Holly-Rhyne Funeral Home. In the late 1970’s Brad took the opportunity to purchase the funeral home, and Kimbrough Funeral Home came to be. The Kimbrough’s became part of the Cisco community having served in various organizations and boards around town and dedicated members of First Baptist Church of Cisco. Brad has served on the Cisco College Board of Regents for over 40 years and in 2022 received his 50 year pin from the Texas Funeral Directors Association, although his service to the funeral industry has been over 65 years. Brad has served people through some of the most difficult times in their lives, walking along side families, but always insisting that what he does isn’t extraordinary, it is just what he was called to do. After the passing of his wife, Brad continued to serve the community through his work. Although not in the funeral business, his 2 daughters are grateful and honored for the role model of service to others that he has given to them.

After many years of prayer, Brad is confident he has the right person to step in and to serve the people of Cisco in his absence: Clay Jacobs and his wife Dani of Baird. Clay is the current owner of Parker-Jacobs Funeral Home, and he has been working along side Brad for a couple of years helping out here and there when needed.
