The 4th Annual Boots and Bling Charity Ball sponsored by Eastland Memorial Hospital Volunteers is just around the corner. This year’s Gala will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the Lumber Yard Event Center in Eastland. We will be entertaining a MARDI GRAS Theme! The pre-party Party will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30. A live Auction will kick off after dinner. Conclude the evening dancing the night away with the ZAK WEBB band. We will also have a silent auction going on throughout the gala. Our goal is to raise money for purchases needed for local healthcare at Eastland Memorial Hospital. Your generosity will ensure our patients have access to high quality care when considering their health care options.

Enter your art, photography, quilts, canned goods, crafts this year in the Eastland County Creative Arts Contest. The contest includes art, photography, baking, canning & sewing.

Come out to the Eastland County Livestock Show on Thursday, January 11th for a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. Meal includes pancake, choice of meat, juice, and coffee for $6. Purchase tickets from a Morton Valley Extension Education Club (MVEE) member or at the Extension Breakfast will be served from 7:00am to 10:00am in the Hutto-Humiston Building at the ECLRA Show Grounds, 475 FM 3101 in Eastland.

The Eastland Mavericks will return to District 5-3A basketball action this week.

Whenever men meet “to tell stories of great achievements of the gigantic oil industry, someone will always tell, amid a breathless silence, the amazing story of Hog Creek Carruth.” He called himself J. W. “Hog Creek” Carruth. The investors he betrayed no doubt called him much worse. His “amazing story” began in the Texas boom town of Desdemona.

Another year comes to its end and we all think of what we didn’t get done and what needs to be done--first, give thanks for all the blessings that has come our way-- in spite of all the goodbyes we’ve had to say to this old year comes to and end... As for this old Tidbits that’s about all we’ve experienced except for all the many blessings of family and friends-- and the faithful customers who continue to resubscribe and who are telling others how nice it is to keep up with local news-- and isn’t all news, LOCAL news because for the most part it affects us all in many ways.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced recently that he would send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, 2.5 percent more than in December 2022.

The Bulk Trash Pick Up schedule for 2024 is shown below. Bulk Trash items will be picked up on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, by appointment only. You will need to call the City of Eastland 24 Hours before pickup at 254-629-8321, in order to make arrangements for pickup. Placing items at curbside more than 48 hours before your pickup date violates City Ordinance Article III, Section 9-19 and 9-21 and may result in a citation being issued. Bulk Trash items are belongings removed from a resident’s home or lot as described in the following list: Sofa or Couch, Table, Chair Mattress, Box Springs Stove Television Dryer & Washers Computer Monitor Lawn Mower or Lawn Equipment (oil and gas removed)

The City of Eastland would like to remind everyone City Ordinance Sec. 9-19 – Depositing, dumping or burning, it is unlawful for any person to throw, place, dump or deposit of any tree trimmings, hedge trimmings or any other cuttings or trimmings of vegetation on or in any gutter, street, sidewalk, parkway, driveway, curb, alley or any other public property of the city, or in or on any lot, vacant or occupied, driveway or other private property in the city.
