Independence Day events in Eastland County concluded Saturday with a 4th of July Patriotic Concert held by Eastland County Community Band & Choir at the modern Ranger College auditorium.

We had our last major summer program at the library on Thursday, June 29th. Elizabeth Kahura, a storyteller from East Africa, presented the program. She is from a small village in the country of Kenya. Ms. Kahura is a performer, singer, storyteller and educator.

Governor Greg Abbott announced over $6.5 million in Texas Talent Connection grants awarded to 21 workforce skills training and job placement programs in communities across the state.

First Baptist Church in Gorman has a new preacher, Toy Holt! Toy and his family have settled into the parsonage. He and his wife Beth have two children Nolan and Isabella. Pastor Holt is bi-vocational. He has a fulltime job at Gorman Milling.

The Defense POW/MIA accounting Agency (DPAA) has announced that five soldier’s remains of the Korean War have been accounted for so far this year.

After being lifted for a few days, a new county wide outdoor Burn Ban was adopted by the County Commissioners Court - vote of 5 ayes and 0 nays at their regular meeting on Monday, June 10.

AUSTIN - Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dade Phelan today issued a joint statement to announce an agreement on proposed legislation that will deliver the biggest property tax cut in Texas history. Both leaders met last week in Austin and, along with members of the House and Senate, have continued working day and night to reach a consensus. The deal represents a significant win for providing relief to Texas property owners and reflects the commitment of Texas leaders to address the concerns of taxpayers and provide significant relief from the burden of escalating property taxes.

Olden monthly musical will be held Saturday, July 15th at Olden Community Center. Dinner is at 5 pm. Chicken strips w/gravy, salad, mashed potatoes, roll, dessert and drink all for $7.00.

Last Sunday morning while sitting on the porch enjoying the last cup of coffee for the morning, I witnessed a scene right out of today’s news.

Rain and sunshine certainly are natures miracle grow combination. I think I need to mow my yard almost once a week. New trees and flowers are growing at a rapid pace as well. Vegetable gardens are producing some beautiful squash, tomatoes, and everything else! I especially appreciate those folks with gardens that share!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with Robert Underwood and his family today at his retirement party. We appreciate all you have done for Rising Star ISD over the past 25 years. We hope that you enjoy your retirement.

THOSE OF US who enjoyed the Fourth of July SPECIAL Musical treat Saturday evening at the RJC ultra nice auditorium should take a minute to thank the long suffering leaders, musicians and singers who obviously practiced long and hard to pull off this grand event.

On Thursday, July 13, Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County will screen a video of Aaron Siri, Managing Partner of Siri & Glimstad LLP, asking--and answeringthe question, 'How can the system be so broken?' The video will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Big Dam Room of the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 West I 20, Cisco. Siri, as lead counsel for Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN), delivered compelling testimony in May at the Arizona Novel COVID South Western Intergovernmental Committee (NCSWIC), an important platform dedicated to addressing the challenges and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, and charting a path forward.
