Join us in celebrating Wayne and Shirley Hargrave's 50th wedding anniversary. Wayne and Shirley began dating in 1973 and were married that same year. They worked alongside each other everyday at Hargrave Insurance and served the community of Cisco through their service with the Goodfellows Organization. Since their retirement, Wayne and Shirley spend each morning birdwatching on their back porch and work in their garden together.

Pleasant Hill Homecoming 2023 Pleasant Hill Homecoming will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church September 10. The church is located 2 miles East of Hwy 183 on FM 2526. Registration at 10 a.m. - Shirley Tucker Barbeque meal and desserts will be provided by church and members.

Recently I was in Abilene with two granddaughters (Laura and Leigha) on some sort of business and when it involved that time had slipped away, we just wanted to make one more stop— looked at the house where their late grandmother Gay Nell and I originally set up housekeeping. A G.I. eligible 2 bedroom on N. LaSalle where their late grandmother and I originally set up housekeeping on the north side where I had lived as an employee of the Reporter News— I had moved up from general reporter to Military editor because I had been in the Army and supposedly knew something about writing about Dyess AFB which was relatively new at that time.

The Ranger Veterans support Group will have a Patriot Day Freedom Walk on Monday September 11th at the Vietnam Memorial Park in Ranger. The program will start at 10:30 AM and be over at 12 noon. We will walk the perimeter of the park. It is too hot to walk down the hiway. Around the park it will be a lot cooler with the shade trees.

The Eastland High School boys’ cross country teams kicked off the 2023 cross country season on a high note. The Mavericks had three teams place in the top 10 at the season- opening 6-Mile XC Relays in Brock on Aug. 12.

The wait is officially over for Eastland County football enthusiasts. High school football is back.

The Eastland High School Lady Mavericks will continue their non-district volleyball schedule this week with a pair of key matchups, including a Sept. 1 contest at home with Clyde.

The Cisco College Wranglers will kick off their 2023 football season at home on Saturday, Aug. 26, with a showdown against the TWA Battlecats. The contest will begin at 6 p.m. at Chesley Field.

Sherinda Barrow, Eastland, Texas, has been elected as an alternate delegate to the 140th American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, set to be held Nov. 6 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, reports Mark McCully, chief executive officer of the American Angus Association. Barrow, a member of the American Angus Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Missouri, is one of 165 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members in their state to serve as an alternate representative to the annual meeting. Representing the United States and Canada, those serving as state delegates will participate in the business meeting and elect new officers and five directors to the American Angus Association board. Held in conjunction with the 140th Annual Convention of Delegates, the Angus Convention is set to take place Nov. 4-6, in Orlando, Florida. The Angus Convention offers unrivaled opportunities for realworld education and face-to-face networking. The American Angus Association is the nation’s largest beef breed organization, serving more than 22,000 members across the United States, Canada and several other countries. The 2023 Earl and Billye Bradley Wellness Center’s Glow Run was held at Eastland Memorial Hospital on Saturday, August 12th, at 08:30 PM. 98 participants wearing glowing jewelry, hats and glasses made it a family fun event!
