The first Saturday musical at Scranton is October 7, 2023. Beth Bailey of Cisco is preparing a meal of Mexican bean soup and cornbread and includes tea or coffee with free refills. A selection of pies and other desserts are available. A donation of $7 will cover the cost of the meal. The food is served at 5 PM and music from friends in and around the Eastland area begins at 5:30. Please join us this Saturday evening for visiting friends, eating a meal together and enjoying great music!

First Methodist Eastland Church Ministries

First Methodist Church of Eastland would like to inform you about several ministries we have begun in our church. These ministries encourage attendance from community members and provide opportunities for worship inside the church and out in the community. Here are three ministries we would like to make you aware of: 1.) Reflect & Reconnect (also known as R&R): This service takes places in the Fellowship Hall at the First Methodist Church Wednesdays and begins at 5:30pm with a free meal that is followed by worship and testimony. 2.) Youth Program (6th –12th grade): We are proud to be officially opening our newly renovated youth building and are excited to be initiating a youth program that will begin on Sunday, September 24th at 5pm. The youth will have a meal provided by the church and will be led in worship, participate in Bible studies, play video games, embark on trips, and many other exciting opportunities. Any youth in Eastland County are encouraged to participate!

Rip Fest 2023 is fast approaching (Saturday, October 7) and the Eastland County Museum is gearing up for their third annual Beans & Cornbread Fundraiser. The serving will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 2 pm as long as supplies last. As in the past there is no charge but donations are gladly accepted and much appreciated!

Cisco Strong Pie Fest October 20 & 21

Cisco Strong will have its 5th annual Cisco TX Pie Fest on October 21, 2023. Since 2017, this festival has grown to be a regional event for everyone. Last year we celebrated with more than 3000 attendees from multiple counties and cities throughout Texas. We will be holding our community Pot Pie Dinner on Friday, October 20th at the Conrad Hilton Center from 5:30 pm-8:00 pm and then on Saturday, October 21st, we will have our Pie Fest starting at 10:00 am. The Festival includes a pie eating contest, an All-You-Can-Eat Pie Buffet, a Pie Baking Contest, with a grand prize of $1000, and Pie Auctions that helps fund our local projects. We will have live music, arts & crafts and food vendors, children's activities, a Mud Pie Color Run hosted by Muddy Mikes Restaurant, a car show sponsored by Cisco Big Dam Car Show and much more. The Wildcat fans were just sitting down when Woodson grabbed the lead. Austin Priddy took a pitchout and raced 65 yards for the first TD of the game. The PAT was good and the Cowboys were ahead 8-0 with 12 seconds gone in the 1st quarter. However, that was the only time Woodson would score.

The Baird Bears scored four times in the first quarter on Friday and then held on to claim a 6324 victory over the Ranger Bulldogs in a six-man showdown played in front of a large crowd at O.C. Warden Stadium.

Hampton helps Lady Panthers take 6th at Brock

Hadli Hampton legged out a top 20 finish last week and helped spur the Gorman Lady Panthers to sixth at the Brock Invitational. Hampton completed the 2-mile race in 15th place, She was one of 69 varsity girls’ competing in the event. Esmerelda Ervin and Delila Crain both ran their way into the top 30. Ervin was 26th overall, while Crain took 29th. Other GHS runners doing well included Kayla Falco (37) and Mariella Rodriquez (45th). Virginia Bivens, Alina Torres, Kyndall Scitern, Emma De La Cruz and Jessica Solis also ran for Gorman. Triston George led the Panthers’ efforts by placing 14th in the varsity boys’ race. Gorman will return to the trails later this week when they compete in the Stephenville Invitational. The meet will be held in the Stephenville City Park, beginning at 9 a.m.
