The Eastland High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both turned in stellar outings on Sept. 7 in Waco. The EHS squads both finished in the top two in their respective divisions at the Hewitt Midway Invitational at Lake Waco.

Set in stone - fortunately one can say, Gorman’s Peanut Festival is held on the second Saturday of September. Gorman’s 37th Annual Peanut Festival took place this weekend - with some threat of storms. As it turned out, the storms kept a few miles distance the long anticipated parade was not Rained On! Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County welcomes you to a screening of The Great Awakening, a third documentary in the Plandemic series. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the movie begins at 6:30 on Thursday, September 14, in the Big Dam Room of the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 West I 20 in Cisco.

Eastland – Beginning Monday, September 11, 2023, TxDOT’s contractor will begin installing traffic signals and adding right turn lanes on the IH 20 frontage roads at SH 112 and FM 570.

Dustin Rhoads, former HLCS grant recipient, is leading a special event to take place in Eastland, TX on Friday, September 8, starting at 10:00am. Any members who would like to help make “seed balls” and distribute them at a location in Eastland are asked to meet at the Eastland county courthouse at 10:00am. Dustin is organizing the event to help restore native plants and habitat to support horned lizards. Eastland, TX (home to the annual Ripfest event) historically had a good population of horned lizards, but not many Texas horned lizards have been observed there in the last 10 years. Native American Seed has marketed a seed mix of native plants to encourage people to plant to support horned lizard habitat.

How can two people that lived in two very different time periods be connected? How can a person and a village on the other side of the world be connected? Join us at 2:00pm on September 17th at the Majestic Theatre in Eastland to see Die Ecke (The Corner). A German produced documentary regarding a picture taken of a US soldier during the final days of WWII and how it has connected people all over the world. Die Ecke features Robert Culverhouse, an Eastland native, and honors the memory of Robert Wynne, also an Eastland native. After the documentary, the Eastland County Museum will be open for guests from 4:00-6:00 pm to view the family heirlooms and WWII artifacts of Robert Wynne. The Wynne (Hanna) family will be there along with the German producer to answer any questions.

The Eastland County Museum has been without any heating or cooling for over two years now. A generous donation was given for new hvac in the Museum but additional funds are needed.

The Eastland High School class of 1977 is having an impromptu gathering on Saturday, September 23, 2023. The gathering will be held at 1 p.m. and take place at 517 E. Sadosa St. in Eastland. The plan is for chips, dips, sandwiches and other finger foods. All EHS class of 77 members are invited and asked to bring your favorite dish, drink, lawn chair, and swim suite!!

Eastland County cattlemen we need your help! Houses for Healing is a ministry in Abilene which provides free housing to those who are sick and in need of medical care in Abilene. There is a tiny house built to represent each county in the Big Country. The door to separate the bathroom from the main living quarters will be branded with brands from that county.
