Deputy Colby Jackson with the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office was recently presented with a commendation and life saving award by Sheriff Jason Weger. On February 19th, 2023, Deputy Jackson applied his tourniquet and training to stop the bleeding on a young man who had sustained a gunshot wound. Sheriff Weger said “As a direct result of Deputy Jackson’s life saving actions and professionalism, the life of that young man was saved. Deputy Jackson was instrumental in helping someone which is what God has commanded of us all.”

If the 1980s were the golden age of Eastland High School Mavericks’ football program, the 2010’s and 2020’s would certainly have to be considered the silver age as Eastland rolled to a pair of district championships and six postseason appearance from 2016 to 2022.

Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County invites you to a screening of Transhumanism and the Original Lie: You Will be Like God Thursday, April 13, at 6:30. This will be in the Big Dam Room of the beautiful Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 West I 20, Cisco.

On Monday, April 17th the Eastland County Retired Teachers Association invites the public to hear County Extension Agent T. J. Cummings speak about native Texas plants that grow well in this area. The meeting will be at the Judge Scott Bailey Event Center at 201 West Main in Eastland, Texas. It is the ground level floor of the Annex building, and near the Connellee Hotel.

The City of Eastland Historic Preservation Board has set the following dates for their 2024 Historic Preservation Grant period: Begin accepting applications April 3, 2023 through July 3, 2023. The board anticipates making recommendations from the applications to the City Commission at their regular September monthly meeting. The 2024 Grant period runs October 1, 2023 through September 1, 2024. Approved grants must be completed and reimbursed by September 15, 2024.

Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County is hosting a candidate forum Thursday, April 20, in the Eastland High School Auditorium. Candidates for Eastland City Commission and Eastland Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees are invited to participate. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Eastland County Community Choir will begin rehearsals on Monday, May 1, at FBC Eastland Choir room. The choir will again be preparing several songs from a Patriotic musical.

The Cottonwood Historical Association will again be hosting an entertaining musical line up with dinner on Friday, April 28th. The Musical kicks off with dinner served from 5:00 pm until 7:00 or until everything is gone!

Once the home of one of the top Jaycee rodeos in the state, the City of Ranger is about to get knee deep in the bull again.

The Eastland County Museum is pleased and excited to announce a special exhibit from the Cisco College Art Department to open at the Museum on April 20. A Visual History of Texas, a collaborative idea between the Museum and Art Director Jodi Frizzell in honor of Texas Independence Day, showcases the talents of Frizzell’s students from both the Cisco and Abilene campuses and will be comprised of pieces created in acrylics and watercolors. Topics of the pieces range from the Battle of the Alamo to the early Christianization of the Native Americans to the Santa Claus Bank Robbery.
