Waldine Stephenson, long time Carbon resident, will be 100 years old April 22, 2023. Her family is hosting a birthday party for her to celebrate this milestone. All her friends and acquaintances are welcome to come and help celebrate her 100th birthday.

Cisco Writers Club invites you to an informal writing class: Poetry for Those Who Are Scared of Poetry. The class will be held Thursday, April 6, 2023, at the Hilton Center, 309 Conrad Hilton Blvd., Cisco, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Pedestrian, bicyclist fatalities on the rise Pedestrian fatalities resulting from traffic crashes increased 34 percent from 2017 to 2021, while bicyclist deaths increased 58 percent during the same period. The Texas Department of Transportation has kicked off a pedestrian and bicyclist campaign this month to urge all Texans to follow the state’s traffic laws and reduce those fatalities.

The Singing Men are ministers of music from churches scattered from Wichita Falls to Tyler, from North Texas to Waco. There are also other chapters in the state of Texas; this is the largest. Now scheduled is to go to Poland in their upcoming event in April.

Centennial Memorial Library will have a book sale beginning Wednesday, March 29th. We will have adult and children’s fiction and nonfiction. Coffee table type books are also available. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 - 6:00 and Wednesdays 12:00 - 5:00.

Thank you to Cisco Fire and Eastland PD who played in the games and to those who supported the event! We had the chance to raise money for the Eastland Animal Shelter while providing a good bit of entertainment. We had a blast playing this year and hope for an even better turnout in the next!

The Eastland “Friendship Meal” will be this coming Tuesday, April 4th, 2023.

The annual Eastland Memorial Hospital Volunteers’ Boots and Bling Charity Ball took place at the Lumberyard in Eastland on the evening of February 11, 2023. Boots and Bling has been a popular fundraiser for the hospital and the Volunteers. The Volunteers put a tremendous amount of effort into making it a success. James Doyle of Spanky’s Catering served a delicious meal that was followed by a fundraising auction conducted by David Bailey from First Financial Bank. Afterward, everyone enjoyed the fellowship of the evening with a live band and dancing. Thanks to the phenomenal support of the community, the Volunteers cleared $58,500 after expenses. Since 2007 the Eastland Memorial Hospital Volunteers have raised and donated $573,159 to Eastland Memorial Hospital to purchase new, state-of-the-art equipment. The Boots and Bling Charity Ball is their biggest annual fundraiser, and this year was no exception.

Our musical at the Scranton Community Center will be April 1, 2023. Our dinner will be hosted by Margaret Starr of Anson. Spaghetti, salad and bread will be served along with pie or other dessert for a $7 donation. Tea or coffee with free refills are also included with the meal. Food is served at 5 PM and the music starts at 5:30.

The Sheriff’s Office had a great time today talking with all the kids at Mulberry School in Eastland. They got to see the cars and learn about 911 with Cell Phone Sally!

Ranger Veteran’s Support Group invited everyone to a celebration Saturday at Ranger Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park in honor of National Vietnam War Veteran’s Day, March 29th.

The Lady Cat golfers competed at Shady Oaks and had tremendous improvement. Ashley Bogner shot her personal best of 91 while Monica Sandoval improved her score. Great job Lady Cat Golfers!
