Area football teams will open preseaseon this weekend

The Eastland High School Lady Mavericks will hit the volleyball court in earnest next week when they host the Albany Lady Lions in non-district action on Aug. 18 in the EHS gym.

We had 310 consignors and 65 buyers. Packer cows were $2-$3 higher. Packer bulls were $2-$4 higher. Young replacement cows and pairs were steady with a good demand. The market for steers and heifers weighing 500# and under were steady to strong. The market for steers and heifers weighing over 500# were $3-$6 higher. We had a good run of cattle with the market being higher on all classes of cattle.

The Desdemona Activity Center will be having one of our “famous” fish fries on Saturday, August 19th . Serving time is 5:00 PM—7:00 PM.

Unless you have been in Alaska the past month or so, you know it has been H O T here in Eastland. And we do mean HOT! With the high temps, and no air conditioning, the Eastland County Museum has had to close until cooler weather prevails. It is just too warm inside the building without ac for our volunteers to work.

If there is one thing we all agree on it is that high school athletics is unique. We, as parents and fans, can’t seem to get enough of it. We want to watch it, talk about it, and read about it.

The 16th Annual Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by the EMH Volunteers is coming soon. This year’s tournament will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, at Lone Cedar Golf Course/Kingdom Course at Lake Leon. The Tee off Time is 8:30 a.m. The purpose of the tournament is to raise money to be used toward purchases needed for local healthcare at Eastland Memorial Hospital.

School start is right around the bend and, believe it or not, summer vacation will be coming to an end soon. We asked our readers online to share some of their summer fun photos with us. “What are YOU doing to enjoy the Summer?” we wanted to know. Three winners have been picked. They all won coupons for free snow-cones, which can be picked up at our Eastland office. Congratulations!

Terri will speak at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 10, in the Big Dam Room of the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 West I 20, Cisco. Terri Hall has long been politically aware, but in 2005 she learned the Texas Dept of Transportation (TxDOT) was to convert her only access to San Antonio, Hwy 281, into a tollway.

Aren’t we a funny people? Do you ever laugh at yourself? Apparently if you say “bless his heart” or “bless her heart” it frees you to gossip all you want about another person. “Bless her heart” she tries so hard on making the turkey and dressing”, which means you could have done better. “Bless his heart” he just never learned to iron a shirt”, which means, you aren’t going to Wal-Mart till he changes his shirt. And if you preface your response to another person’s statements with “I’m just saying”.
