U.S. Congressman Roger Williams, 25th Texas District, spoke and took questions from a group of Eastland City officials, county leaders and educators last Wednesday at the Eastland Connellee Roof Garden. These included EHS Dual Credit students, political science, with instructor Nancy Hughes, Ranger College.

Eastland County Museum is pleased to announce that it is hosting the Texas Lakes Trail traveling exhibit on the historic Chisholm Trail beginning August 31. The Texas Historical Commission celebrated the 150th anniversary of this fabled trail which took millions of longhorns north to railroads in Kansas. The money from the sale of the longhorns brought Texas out of the financial disaster following the Civil War.

Sherinda Barrow, Eastland, Texas, has been elected as an alternate delegate to the 140th American Angus Association Convention of Delegates, set to be held Nov. 6 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, reports Mark McCully, chief executive officer of the American Angus Association. Barrow, a member of the American Angus Association with headquarters in Saint Joseph, Missouri, is one of 165 Angus breeders who have been elected by fellow members in their state to serve as an alternate representative to the annual meeting. Representing the United States and Canada, those serving as state delegates will participate in the business meeting and elect new officers and five directors to the American Angus Association board. Held in conjunction with the 140th Annual Convention of Delegates, the Angus Convention is set to take place Nov. 4-6, in Orlando, Florida. The Angus Convention offers unrivaled opportunities for realworld education and face-to-face networking. The American Angus Association is the nation’s largest beef breed organization, serving more than 22,000 members across the United States, Canada and several other countries. The Eastland High School Lady Mavericks will continue their non-district volleyball schedule this week with a pair of key matchups, including a Sept. 1 contest at home with Clyde.

The wait is officially over for Eastland County football enthusiasts. High school football is back.

The Eastland High School boys’ cross country teams kicked off the 2023 cross country season on a high note. The Mavericks had three teams place in the top 10 at the season- opening 6-Mile XC Relays in Brock on Aug. 12.
