October 1, 2023 will be a special day for Eastland Baptist Church. We will have two missionary families with us sharing their burden for the mission fields to which they are called. These are the first two missionaries our young church has invited to be with us. The gospel is needed all over the world. We are so thankful to have young families answering the call of God to take the gospel to places we may never have an opportunity to go. Missions will be a big part of Eastland Baptist Church!

The Eastland “Friendship Meal” will be this coming Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023.

Farmers Market of Eastland celebrates the end of summer and its successful first season. Despite the extreme Summer of 2023, vendors and devoted supporters beat the heat.

First Responders - Texas Brotherhood - from Texas and other states in the southeast are riding across Texas to show support for our fallen heroes and their families. Their stop after Eastland at the County Sheriff’s Department was Moran for the night. If you pass a group of grown men and women riding bicycles, give them a honk and a wave to thank them for what they are doing.

Eastland Centennial Memorial Library will have a book sale beginning Tuesday, October 3rd. It will be stuff a bag for $4. The bag size will be the normal Brookshires/Walmart plastic bag size. The books will be in the hallway.

Fire Chief Stephen Forbes and his crew hosted an open house event at the Olden Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday. There was a large turnout with those in attendance seeing the fire trucks and equipment. They also learned how to use a fire extinguisher by putting out a small fire. St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church’s 2023 Fall Festival was held Saturday at Eastland Courthouse square. Food booths, games, music, raffle, dancing and much more was offered for the public’s enjoyment. A great time was had by all! The Desdemona Activity Center will be hosting a Hamburger/Hot Dog Supper Saturday, September 23rd . Serving time is 5:00 PM—7:00 PM.

Eastland Fire Department and Rescue are holding their 3rd Annual Open House on October 14th from 11AM - 2PM.

Eastland Civic League and Garden Club are fundraising with a Pecan & Peanut Sale. The Delicious Pecans & Peanuts are from Comanche, Texas of the famous Durham’s Company.

By Vance O’Brien The Board of City Commissioners of Eastland was called to order at 6 p.m. on Sept. 18, 2023 at Eastland City Hall. Following was the invocation by member Richard Rossanger and pledge led by Mayor Larry Vernon. On motion by Cecil Funderburg, seconded by R. Rossander the minutes of the Aug. 21, 31 and Sept. 6, Sept. 8 meetings were approved. A financial report showed sales tax finishing in, 2022-23, by Sept., to be greater than 2022 by 9.47% and audit in good condition, according to City Auditor.

“I was following my intuition,” German film director/producer Christa Pfafferott said as she spoke to a large audience at the Majestic Theatre Sunday afternoon. They were gathered to view her film “Die Ecke” (The Corner) which delves into the death of an American soldier, Robert Wynne from Texas, killed in action as his division moved into the German village of Oberdorla during the end phase of World War II.

The Annual C.A.S.T. for Kids will be held at Lake Leon on Saturday, Sept. 23rd. The event is presented by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance.

Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County welcomes you to a screening of The Great Awakening, a third documentary in the Plandemic series. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; the movie begins at 6:30 on Thursday, September 14, in the Big Dam Room of the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 West I 20 in Cisco.
