By Tommy Wells The Eastland High School Mavericks extended their stranglehold of the district cross country championship on Oct. 11. The Mavericks nailed down their third consecutive district crown by turning in a dominating effort on the trails in Dublin.

Our Family and Community Service class (taught by Mrs. Keierleber) has been working on some pillowcase and pillow and basic quilting projects with Rising Star students. Through the process the students have learned about planning a project, selecting fabrics/patterns, and the sewing process. These projects look great!!! October 21 has been is the 2023 FALL FESTIVAL in the park on Hwy. 36 in Rising Star, 10 AM to 4 PM. FUN things to do are planned such as Photo Booth, cake walk, music, corn hole, face painting, jewelry, air fresheners, candy, wind chimes and a special pecan pie contest. Other goods may be sold as well.

By Tommy Wells The Perrin-Whitt Pirates scores six times in the third quarter on Friday and rallied to claim a wild 70-44 comefrom- behind win over the Gorman Panthers in District 6-A action. The Pirates had trailed at the half by a 24-21 clip.

When the Cisco College Wranglers met the New Mexico MIlitary Institute Broncos in Roswell Saturday for the ESPN “Game of the Week,” not even the ESPN announcers could have predicted that the Wranglers would walk away with a 21-10 victory, as the announcers admitted over the air.

The Ranger Veterans Support Group will meet Tuesday, Oct. 24th from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. A counselor from the Taylor Co. Vets Center will conduct these meetings. Please give me a call if you would like to attend this meeting.

Asking a fellow Texan if they have read the Texas constitution in its entirety usually yields a hard no, perhaps because its printed form fills over two hundred pages. In the upcoming election on November 7, Texans have an opportunity to add to the constitution through popular vote. The fourteen proposed amendments cover a wide variety of things from wealth tax restrictions to allowing Galveston county to abolish the office of county treasurer.

Heading into their showdown with the Merkel Badgers, the Eastland Mavericks knew they had to do something quickly if they wanted to change their luck and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Eastland Memorial Hospital is excited to introduce Dr. Jill McAngus, a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. Dr. McAngus, an alumna of Tarleton State University, graduated summa cum laude before earning her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She completed a competitive residency program at Baylor Scott and White in Temple. She is highly trained in treating a variety of orthopedic problems and helping patients with acute or chronic injuries of the extremities and degenerative joint conditions in returning to an active lifestyle. Eastland Memorial Hospital is proud to have Dr. McAngus join our healthcare team, and we look forward to the positive impact she will make in our community. Starting October 11th, 2023, Dr. McAngus will be available for consultations and appointments every second and fourth Wednesday at Eastland Memorial Hospital. There will be a fundraiser dinner hosted by the Cottonwood Historical Association on Friday, October 27th. It’ll be at the Cottonwood Community Center with dinner served from 5:00 PM until 8 PM (or until they run out!). On the menu is Smoked Turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes or mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and green beans. Your choice of dessert and drinks are also included. Dinner is $15 per plate or $5 for kids under 10. The music will start at 5:30 with some great talent!
