The Eastland High School Mavericks will get the opportunity to get familiar with a few new places over the next two seasons, thanks to the University Interscholastic League’s biennial redistrict process. The Mavericks were one of several Eastland County football and basketball teams to see shifts in their districts on February 1.

The annual Flatwood Cemetery Association meeting will be held on Sat., February 17th at 10 AM. We will be discussing plans on how we can make the cemetery better. The meeting will be held at the home of Mark and Carol Blaylock, 707 C.R. 309 in the Flatwood community. If you have any interest in the Flatwood Cemetery please join us. Eastland County – On Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, the Texas Rangers along with the Eastland Poarrested William James Culverhouse, 71, of Eastland, Texas, for improper relationship between educator and student. He was then booked into the Eastland County Jail. The arrest comes after the Rangers were contacted by EPD back in December to assist with an investigation involving a female student at Eastland High School. This case was presented to the 91st District Court grand jury who handed down a true bill indictment. Additional questions should be directed to the Eastland County District Attorney’s Of- fice.

Seat belt use continues its downward trend among Texas teen drivers and passengers.

Arlin McCrary of Carbon, TX, a member of Eastland FFA, caught a calf during the 2024 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s Calf Scramble, earning a $500 a show heifer and the chance for up to $16,000 in scholarship awards. McCrary is the son of Mickey Ivey and his award was sponsored by The Viola Family.

Amy O’Brien County’s five papers Glenn, President of the Eastland Civic League & Garden Club, gave the club’s January program. Theme of the program was “History of Eastland County’s Newspapers and how they tie back to YOU.”
