By Tommy Wells The Eastland Mavericks’ new ballcontrol offense worked to a “T” on Friday night in front of a large crowd at Mavericks Stadium. Probably because it was the T.
Sparked by a new ground-oriented rushing attack and an opportunistic defense, Eastland ground out a 21-6 season-opening win over Coleman. Despite attempting just two passes, the Mavericks powered their way to three touchdowns, including a 2-yard plunge by Cayden Alford late in the third quarter that cinched the victory.
Coleman didn’t help itself, either. The Bluecats committed eight penalties in the contest, including several that led to an Eastland touchdown.
