BATON ROUGE, LA (11/06/2023)Samantha Thomas, of Eastland, Texas, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective alldiscipline collegiate honor society. Thomas was initiated at Angelo State University.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for November, 1.9 percent more than in November 2022.

Local Senior Citizens were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner hosted by the City of Gorman last Wednesday, held in the Gorman Community Center. From smoked turkey and ham, green bean casserole and mashed potatoes to pumpkin pie and cobbler, everything was delicious. The meal was catered by David Campbell, owner of Spirit BBQ. This was the first of senior citizens meals to be hosted by the City. City Secretary Tacy Warren coordinated arrangements for the meal. Other citizens stepped forward to help with serving and various additional tasks including Lissa Young, Karen Pena, Joni Ettinger, and David and Vicki Perry. A large crowd arrived to enjoy the meal. Following lunch, Senior citizens were encouraged to stay for a game of dominoes or just visit for a while. A big Thank You to the City of Gorman, caterer David Campbell and all who helped make this senior citizen’s meal a great community gathering.

Coach Brock Kimball, the head coach of Cisco College’s women’s basketball team, spent two years of his childhood growing up on the Cisco College campus.

Last year the Cisco Goodfellows helped over 70 families have a wonderful Christmas with boxes of groceries and toys for over 150 children. We are looking to assist even more families and the Goodfellows organization cannot accomplish that without the help of business and personal donations from the community. Please consider donating early this year, as Goodfellows will be distributing on December 16th.

RANGER – The Ranger College Women's Basketball team has new leadership, and he has already made some great changes.

The Ranger Veterans Support Group will meet Tuesday, Nov. 28th. The meeting is from 10:30 AM to 12 noon. If you want to join us please give me a call. I’ll tell you if you are eligible.

[Ranger, Texas- November 17, 2023]—Ranger College is proud to announce its collaboration with the Abilene Mobile Food Pantry, bringing much needed support to the college community and tackling the issue of food insecurity on campus. This partnership marks the first time the Abilene Mobile Food Pantry was available to students, faculty, and staff directly on the Ranger College campus.

Eastland County Today Newspaper is having a Snowman Christmas Tree. We invite you to join us in giving our local elderly at Ranger Care Center a very Merry Christmas! Their Christmas party is normally held the week of Christmas so we would like to try to bring gifts to them by December 16th.

Ranger College has led the charge in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, the Rangers have hosted a multitude of events and activities for students to participate in to shine a light on individuals within their community.

Veterans around Eastland County were honored on Saturday, Veterans Day.

Stanley Neal Underwood, 77 of Eastland, Texas, passed from this life on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at his home.

Freddric “Freddy” Anderson, age 86 of Cisco, passed away Friday November 3 , 2023, in Brownwood.

John Thomas Harris Jr. 74 of Ranger passed away September 28, 2023 Services: Cremation Memorial service will be held December 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Cross Point Community Church.
