Friends, As 2022 draws to a close, I’d like to thank all of you that have supported our efforts to serve this district and the Great State of Texas!

The Bosque River Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) will have their first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday, January 10, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Stephenville. The program, “Native Americans in Texas”, will be presented by Dan Young. Mr. Young is an educator and has been a member of the Stephenville Historical Board for 46 years. He is also an avocational archaeologist.

Editor, I was at the Eastland County Commissioners meeting on Dec. 27. I was shocked at what I heard and saw. In updating the personnel Manual the Auditor had made changes to. One of the changes was to remove all reference to He and She in the Manual to keep the policy GENDER NEUTRAL.

The Bible says in 11 Timothy 3:1, 'But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days.' Another translation says it this way; 'In the last days, there will come times of difficulty.' A third translation is, 'In the last days, grievous times shall come.' Because this is true, I have great concerns regarding my children's and grandchildren's future.

A good example of revisionist historians is a 1997 book called The Godless Constituion, written by two professors at Cornell University. This book was used in many universities as a text book. According to the authors of this book, the framers of the constitution did not want statements of God because they (our framers) wanted to “create an utterly secular state” in which religion would be kept strictly private and separate from government. Reading some Oaths of public office does no support that falsehood.

Many Americans treasure the privilege of being born in the United States of America. My generation learned about its founding when we were in school. Those of us, who are Believers, support it in our prayer life.

The Eastland Lady Mavericks pounded out a pair of impressive wins this past weekend and rolled to the girls’ consolation honors at the Eula Holiday Tournament.

The Gorman High School Lady Panthers found the perfect way to wash away the memories of their first loss of the 2022-23 basketball season by upending the Gordon Lady Longhorns in overtime on Dec. 30.

The Eastland High School Mavericks had several players earn postseason football honors recently, including standouts Jay Oznick, Cason Browning and Gavin McClain. In all, nine members earned spots on the 2022 District 6-3A all-district squad.

Cisco was laid out by the Houston and Texas Central Railroad, but both Ranger and Eastland town lots were laid out by the Texas and Pacific Railroad. In fact John J. Cisco was a financier of the H&TC RR.

The 2023 Cisco Livestock Show will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. at the “new” Cisco Ag Farm. Roy Richey of Cross Plains will judge the show. The Cisco Livestock Show Association would like to invite everyone out to enjoy the show and support the youth of our community.
