The Bosque River Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) will have their first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday, January 10, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Stephenville. The program, “Native Americans in Texas”, will be presented by Dan Young. Mr. Young is an educator and has been a member of the Stephenville Historical Board for 46 years. He is also an avocational archaeologist.
Since the chapter did not meet in December they will recognize the Honor Day, of December 9, 1835, which was the end of the siege of Bexar, the first major campaign of the Texas Revolution. Members will also recognize the contributions of Mirabeau B. Lamar, first vice president and second president of the Republic of Texas who is also known as “The Father of Education in Texas”. His honor day is celebrated January 26 because on that date in 1839 the Republic of Texas voted to set aside land for public schools and universities.
Members of DRT are women who are direct descendants of a man or woman who served the Republic of Texas honorably prior to February 1846. For more information on joining go to drtinfo.org or contact chapter registrar Carol Dismukes ( 972-9777727).
