Area lake levels, considerably lower than usual, have recently evened out due to moisture received in the region. The extended drought this summer caused levels to steadily drop until about a month ago. Lake Cisco, Lake Leon, and Lake Proctor all help provide water to costumers in Eastland County.

Loys Allmand Little was born October 20, 1932 in Baird, TX to James Robert and Beulah Laningham Childers. She was welcomed by brothers Tommy and John. They settled on a farm near Ovalo that is still in the family today. Loys graduated Salutatorian of her South Taylor High class of 1950.

Richard Lee Hopson, 88, of Abilene passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022.

Patsy Louise Callaway Townsend, age 83 passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022. Her family hosted a visitation on Tuesday, January 3rd from 5 to 7 pm at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral Service was held at 10 am Wednesday, January 4th in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Blanket Cemetery Pavilion.

Deni s e Mar i e Longson passed away Sunday, December, 18, 2022 at Medical City Los Colinas after complications from surgery.

Jane A. (“Jana”) King, 86, most recently of Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away on December 22, 2022.

The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center is proudly presenting “Introspections: A Collection of Unspoken Poetries” by Eastland artist Ellen Carmona - Kochoa. Come see this wonderful collection of mixed media, vibrant, creative art from December 29, 2022 - February 4, 2023 exhibiting in the Main Gallery of the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center, 207 N Breckenridge Ave. The Gallery is open Tuesdays - Fridays 10-5:00pm and Saturdays 10-3:00pm.

The 3rd Annual Boots and Bling Charity Ball sponsored by the EMH Volunteers is just around the corner. This year’s Gala will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at the Lumber Yard Event Center in Eastland.

The 36th Annual “TET” Reunion will be Saturday, Feb. 4th, 2023 at the Taylor county Expo Center display Building in Abilene, Tx.

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott sent letters to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Railroad Commission of Texas Chairman Christi Craddick calling on their respective agencies to investigate Atmos Energy’s failure to prepare for the winter weather event in the last week and deliver critical natural gas service to Texans in north and central Texas.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he is sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for December, 12.4 percent more than in December 2021.

The Bosque River Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) will have their first meeting of 2023 on Tuesday, January 10, 2:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Stephenville. The program, “Native Americans in Texas”, will be presented by Dan Young. Mr. Young is an educator and has been a member of the Stephenville Historical Board for 46 years. He is also an avocational archaeologist.
