The Eastland Mavericks knew heading into their final regular season game against rival Comanche knowing they were in the postseason mix regardless whether they won or lost. They just didn’t know who they would face in the Class 3A bi-district round.

The ladies group of Harmony Baptist Church will meet on Tuesday, November 14th at 6 pm for a cookie exchange and ornament painting. All interested ladies should bring 2 dozen homemade cookies and a copy of the cookie recipe. We will spend the evening solving a Nativity 'mystery', sharing cookies, and painting wooden ornaments for Christmas. All ladies of the community are invited.

Eastland County was well represented at the UIL state cross country meet this past weekend at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Sammy Herrera, Colt Lawrence, Triston George and the Gorman High School Lady Panthers made sure of that. Herrera, Lawrence and George all starred in the boys’ 5-kilometer races. Herrera, a standout at Eastland High School, powered his way to 41 in the individual standings in the Class 3A classification. He finished the race with a time of 17 minutes, 18.5 seconds. Holliday’s Noah Strohman won the 3A state crown with a winning time of 15:31.2.

Editor, For those who don’t know my history, I started working at the Eastland Memorial Hospital in July 1973 as a Graduate Nurse. I changed jobs several times in an effort to find employment that had better hours for raising my children, but I always went back to the hospital because Acute Care was my first love in nursing. In August 1996 I graduated from UTA with my MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner and began a second career at the Family Health Clinic. In 2000, I decided to run for the Board of Directors, hoping to contribute back to the facility that had given me so much professionally.

The City of Eastland, along with Waste Connections, will once again offer free residential bagged leaf curbside pick-ups on the second and fourth Fridays of each month beginning November 10, 2023. This season the pick-ups have been extended through April 26, 2024.

The 5th graders at Siebert Elementary School in Eastland invite you to join them for their annual Hometown Heroes Program on Friday, November 10 at 9:00 or 2:30 pm. Veterans, Fire, Police and members of the medical community will be celebrated during this time. There will a reception in your honor after the morning program.

The Tri-County Baptist Association Annual Meeting will be hosted by Lake Leon Baptist Church this Sunday evening, Nov. 5th. Business Session and meal will begin at 5 PM in the Fellowship Hall, followed by a worship service at 6 PM in the sanctuary. Dr. Cory Hines, President of Howard Payne University, will be the speaker.

The Eastland “Friendship Meal” will be this coming Tuesday, November 7th, 2023.

‘Make no mistake about it, this week’s showdown with longtime rival Comanche means a lot to the Eastland Mavericks, even though they have already clinched a postseason spot. A win over the Indians would enable the Mavericks to climb into the thirdplace position in the District 5-3A standings. That third-place finish could enable Eastland to avoid seventh-ranked Holliday in the bi-district round of the postseason.
