Veterans around Eastland County were honored on Saturday, Veterans Day.

Ranger College has led the charge in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. Throughout the month, the Rangers have hosted a multitude of events and activities for students to participate in to shine a light on individuals within their community.

Eastland County Today Newspaper is having a Snowman Christmas Tree. We invite you to join us in giving our local elderly at Ranger Care Center a very Merry Christmas! Their Christmas party is normally held the week of Christmas so we would like to try to bring gifts to them by December 16th.

The Gorman High School Lady Panthers ran their season record to a perfect 3-0 this past week by grinding out impressive wins over Woodson and Tolar in non-district play. Overall, Gorman outscored its two opponents by a 138-14 margin.

The Holliday Eagles must have felt like they were in the drive-thru line at a fast food restaurant on Friday. They did, after all, have everything their way.

Bankhead Community Theatre presents Alfred Hitchcock’s THE 39 STEPS a Parody Adapted by Patrick Barlow at the Lyric Art Center in Eastland, TX. Opening night is on Friday, November 17th with the performance starting at 7:30PM. The show will continue through the weekend with a performance on Saturday, Nov. 18th at 7:30PM and a matinee at 2:30PM on Sunday, Nov. 19th. The _________________________ open one hour before showtime each day.

Eastland County was well represented at the UIL state cross country meet this past weekend at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Sammy Herrera, Colt Lawrence, Triston George and the Gorman High School Lady Panthers made sure of that. Herrera, Lawrence and George all starred in the boys’ 5-kilometer races. Herrera, a standout at Eastland High School, powered his way to 41 in the individual standings in the Class 3A classification. He finished the race with a time of 17 minutes, 18.5 seconds. Holliday’s Noah Strohman won the 3A state crown with a winning time of 15:31.2.

The ladies group of Harmony Baptist Church will meet on Tuesday, November 14th at 6 pm for a cookie exchange and ornament painting. All interested ladies should bring 2 dozen homemade cookies and a copy of the cookie recipe. We will spend the evening solving a Nativity 'mystery', sharing cookies, and painting wooden ornaments for Christmas. All ladies of the community are invited.

The Eastland Mavericks knew heading into their final regular season game against rival Comanche knowing they were in the postseason mix regardless whether they won or lost. They just didn’t know who they would face in the Class 3A bi-district round.

Editor, For those who don’t know my history, I started working at the Eastland Memorial Hospital in July 1973 as a Graduate Nurse. I changed jobs several times in an effort to find employment that had better hours for raising my children, but I always went back to the hospital because Acute Care was my first love in nursing. In August 1996 I graduated from UTA with my MSN as a Family Nurse Practitioner and began a second career at the Family Health Clinic. In 2000, I decided to run for the Board of Directors, hoping to contribute back to the facility that had given me so much professionally.

The City of Eastland, along with Waste Connections, will once again offer free residential bagged leaf curbside pick-ups on the second and fourth Fridays of each month beginning November 10, 2023. This season the pick-ups have been extended through April 26, 2024.

This is a wonderful Christmas Project for individuals, businesses, Church groups, civic clubs, organizations, daycares, or anyone with a kind heart for the elderly. Security Title Company is holding our annual Snowman/ Snowwoman Christmas Tree. We invite you to come to our location at 115 S. Lamar in Eastland, and take a snowman to help bring the elderly of The Woodlands Nursing and Rehabilitation a very Merry Christmas! Their Christmas party is being held on December 22, 2023 and we would like to try and get their gifts up there to them so they will be able to open them up on that day! We want to give our appreciation in advance to any and all who choose to give this season.

FRIDAY’S GAME:

The 5th graders at Siebert Elementary School in Eastland invite you to join them for their annual Hometown Heroes Program on Friday, November 10 at 9:00 or 2:30 pm. Veterans, Fire, Police and members of the medical community will be celebrated during this time. There will a reception in your honor after the morning program.
