Lily Bird found the perfect way to kick off the 2023 high school track and field season this past Thursday. She simply wrote her name into the Eastland High School history books.

Academic

Delburt Schaefer was a gifted Cisco athlete who was QB of two winning football teams—1958 and 1959. He started on defense as a freshman, and was All-District in five sports his senior year, winning him a football scholarship to Texas Tech. His Freshman year at Tech they went undefeated. His teammate for 7 years in Cisco, Charles Lipsey, was also on that team.

EASTLAND VFW CELEBRATES MARDI GRAS--VFW 4136 in Eastland held a Fat Tuesday to celebrate the end of Mardi Gras. A great time was had by all and included a pool tournament.

Cisco has a new eatery and entertainment center downtown: Muddy Mikes Bar & Grill, located at the intersection of Conrad Hilton Boulevard and W. 10th Street. It is owned by Mike and Jackie Belk, who have lived in Cisco for 10 years.

“Your Eternity is Our Priority” To the many residents of Eastland, an historical corner of W. Main and Connellee Ave., will reopen its doors on March 5, 2023. Since 1945 this corner has served as a place of worship to the many believers of Eastland County. After nearly a decade of vacancy, Eastland Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Caleb Shipman, will humbly continue the legacy of this faithful corner.

Rising Star ISD Superintendent Robby Stuteville resigned from his position as superintendent on Monday, February 20, 2023.

First Baptist Church Eastland is excited to announce that we are planning for this year's Mission Eastland: Serve Fest. We are looking to help families with minor home repair and/or yard work on the weekend of March 31-April 1st. Applications are processed by our team to determine who is eligible. Anyone who is within Eastland County can apply. The service will come at no charge to those who are chosen. Anyone who is wanting to complete an application or has any further questions, can contact FBC at 254-629-3355. Deadline to turn in applications is Tuesday, March 7th.

Please join us for the 1st Annual Guns & Hoses Slow pitch softball tournament fundraiser for the Eastland Animal Shelter.

The Eastland Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the Bear Creek Taphouse on Friday to celebrate their Grand Opening and one year anniversary. A large number of patrons attended the opening and the Heartland Jazz Combo performed for an excellent celebration.

Fire Department Holds Chili Cookoff

The Blue Collar Art Exhibit had a good turn out Saturday evening at the Lyric building in Eastland. Theme of the exhibit was labor. Artist were Beth Pearson Lund, Gary Ford, Kirstyn Wright and Will Wright.

Hope you can join us at the February Cottonwood Musical for hot stew, great music and friendly conversation! We’ll be at the Community Center on Friday, February 24th ready to serve dinner a little earlier this month. Dinner will be served beginning at 4:30 PM. We’ll be serving Poor Man’s Stew with Cornbread and Crackers, your choice of dessert and drinks. Dinner from 4:30 until 6:30 (or til gone!) with the Music starting at 5 PM. The Musical line up features a variety of tunes from blue grass to country, some country classics and even rock ‘n roll.

Scranton Community Center will not be hosting a musical for February.

Don Braly, known by most from all the years he worked at the County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Bradford, is Rising Star’s new Chief of Police.

Hayden Tuttle (pictured left) competed in the calf scramble at San Antonio stock show and rodeo and caught a calf. He will receive a certificate to go towards his next year’s project for the Breeding Show in San Antonio.
