COUNTY MUSEUM TO PRESENT A VISUAL HISTORY OF TEXAS BY CISCO COLLEGE ART STUDENTS

The Eastland County Museum is pleased and excited to announce a special exhibit from the Cisco College Art Department to open at the Museum on April 20. A Visual History of Texas, a collaborative idea between the Museum and Art Director Jodi Frizzell in honor of Texas Independence Day, showcases the talents of Frizzell’s students from both the Cisco and Abilene campuses and will be comprised of pieces created in acrylics and watercolors. Topics of the pieces range from the Battle of the Alamo to the early Christianization of the Native Americans to the Santa Claus Bank Robbery.

2024 HISTORIC PRESERVATION GRANT APPLICATION PERIOD ANNOUNCED

The City of Eastland Historic Preservation Board has set the following dates for their 2024 Historic Preservation Grant period: Begin accepting applications April 3, 2023 through July 3, 2023. The board anticipates making recommendations from the applications to the City Commission at their regular September monthly meeting. The 2024 Grant period runs October 1, 2023 through September 1, 2024. Approved grants must be completed and reimbursed by September 15, 2024.

FCCLA travels to Waco to compete in Conference

Rising Star FCCLA had the pleasure of traveling to Waco on March 12-13, 2023 to compete in the Region II Conference. Rising Star had four teams competing in three different FCCLA competitive events. Yamilet Soto and Mariana Lopez competed in Cupcake Presentation, Daniela Bocanegra and Holli Brown competed in Focus on Children, and Merari Sandoval competed in Repurpose and Redesign. All four teams competed at level two, which includes grades nine and ten.

The Commission and the Mayor met on April 1st at 9:00am in the Gorman Community center for a workshop to discuss possible goals/projects for our community. Several topics were discussed but no action was taken because that was not the purpose of the meeting. However, as a result of the meeting the following items were placed on Thursday night’s agenda: discuss and make changes if desired to our current animal control ordinance; what to do about vacant- unoccupied houses in need of repair, incentives/ rewards/yard of the month for those property owners that are taking good care of their property; issues concerning the Gorman City Cemetery. The highway six project, park improvements, and downtown properties were also discussed.
