Rising Star FCCLA had the pleasure of traveling to Waco on March 12-13, 2023 to compete in the Region II Conference. Rising Star had four teams competing in three different FCCLA competitive events. Yamilet Soto and Mariana Lopez competed in Cupcake Presentation, Daniela Bocanegra and Holli Brown competed in Focus on Children, and Merari Sandoval competed in Repurpose and Redesign. All four teams competed at level two, which includes grades nine and ten.
All four teams competed very well at the FCCLA Region II Conference. Yamilet Soto received 8th place with delicious cupcakes topped with homemade churros. Mariana Lopez crafted amazing chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting and pieces of Reeses on top. Merari Sandoval received 9th place by designing and creating a functional vanity from an old school desk. Daniela Bocanegra and Holli Brown received 1st place at the regional contest and 7th place at the state level in a project called Focus on Children, where they stretched and exercised with the kindergarten through second grade classes. All four teams had to present their projects to judges who gave them a score based off of a rubric. Cupcake Presentation was a very competitive event this year and had over thirty participants. Both of the Cupcake Presentation and Repurpose and Redesign participants were freshman and competed very well against the upperclassmen.
