Hayden Clark drove in five runs and Nashton Guthery tossed a five-hitter on Saturday and helped the Gorman Panthers complete a stunning upset of topranked Ira in the Region I-1A quarterfinals with an 11-1 victory in front of a large crowd at Abilene Christian High School.
With the win, Gorman won two of the three games played in the postseason series and avenged last season’s playoff loss to Ira. The win also launches Gorman into the regional semifinal round to face off against rival May.
With the series tied at 1-1, the Panthers didn’t waste any time in taking control on Saturday. The Panthers scored four runs in their first at-bat and never looked back.
