The Cisco High School Loboes knew going into the 2023 Region II-2A Track and Field Championships if they wanted to have a legitimate shot at making a run at the Class 2A state title in Austin on May 1214 they would need to turn in a stellar outing in Springtown on April 28-29.
Consider that goal met. The Loboes, en route to qualifying seven athletes for the upcoming state meet, sprinted to second in the regional team standings. Cisco reeled off 67 points in the meet and finished just points behind Albany for the regional crown.
Cisco turned more than a few heads with its performance in the 4x100and 4x200-meter relay races. Cade Gayle, Gus Hart, Hunter Long and Jaden White penciled themselves in as a contender for the state title in the 4x200-meter crown with a dominating effort. Running in front of a large crowd at Porcupine Stadium, the Loboes legged out a winning time of 1 minute, 30.54 seconds – and finished more than a second ahead of Collinsville. Cisco also punched its ticket to state in the 4x100-meter relay. Gayle, Long, Kelton Desmond and White sprinted to a second-place finish in the race. The crossed the finish line with a time of 43.37 seconds. Stamford won the 4x100-meter title with a mark of 42.89.
