Good news. CWC member Priscilla Bettis, who suggested CWC’s “Poetry for Those Who Are Scared of Poetry” class for the month of February, laughed upon reading last week’s column. She graciously responded, “April is National Poetry Month, so it’s all working out perfectly!”
Here’s a little information about National Poetry Month, from https://poets.org/national- poetry-month. “Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month is a special occasion that celebrates poets’ integral role in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives.”
Poets.org goes on to say, “As a special offering this April, U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón has selected twenty new poems by contemporary poets to be featured in the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day series as part of a collaboration with the Library of Congress.”
