FROM THE GORMAN MAYOR

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Vicki and I wish you all a blessed and prosperous new year! May you be rich in good health, a loving family, and safety! I suppose that all the families with children in school were glad to see school back in session Monday. I bet even the kids were glad to get back in school if for no other reason than to see all their friends. Although with Facetime, Facebook and other internet sites, I’m sure the kids stayed in touch with some of their friends over the holidays.

I bet even the kids were glad to get back in school if for no other reason than to see all their friends. Vicki and I had a great time with our kids and grandkids over Christmas. We spent some time in Wylie, Texas with our son’s family. After New Year’s, our daughter’s six-year-old twins were able to come spend a couple of nights with us here in Gorman. We enjoyed it and so did they, especially the Library and the Park.

We had our regular Commissioners meeting Thursday evening on the 5th at the Community Center. After the previous meets agendas were approved and the payment of the bills was approved, there were citizens to address the Commissioners with some concerns. The Commissioners then received the Department Head reports which included a report by Sherriff Weger. The Commission then approved the 2nd reading of Ordinance 2023-01-05 to reduce the speed limits through Gorman during TxDOT construction. Mrs.Jane Krose was on the agenda next to address her concerns regarding animal control. She was bitten by a stray dog while on a walk. There were other citizens present that shared her concerns! The City is concerned as well and is looking for a solution. The Commissioners then approved amendments to the Personnel Policy Handbook and Commission Organizational Chart. A proposal to build a shed for city equipment was then reviewed and the commission tabled the proposal and requested that the specifications for the shed be amended to include a north wall. The Commissioners then went into closed session to discuss personnel with Sheriff Weger. When they returned, they decided to send the contract presented by Sheriff Weger to the City Attorney for review. The Commission then adjourned.
