County Commissioners Court: County AgriLife Office presents video showcasing 4-H Events

The Eastland County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular session March 27, 2023 at 9 a.m. in the Eastland County Commissioners’ Courtroom in Eastland Texas.

Judge Hullum declared a quorum and called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Then there was a prayer and pledge to the flag. The commissioners considered the consent agenda, which included non-controversial and routine matters. This included approval of minutes from the previous meeting, personnel matters, budgetary and appropriative matters, presentation of additional revenue, presentation of budget adjustments, departmental reports, bills, claims, and accounts. They also accepted certificates of course completion on Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act, and Cybersecurity. They also accepted purchasing acknowledgements as required in local government code Section 262.037. It was noted that there were no employee changes.

Business to be discussed and considered for approval included the following items: --The Burn Ban was lifted on March 6, 2023, and it is still lifted because of some prospects of rain in the near future. --911 Update and Cooperative dispatch update --Sandy Cagle represented the Child Welfare Board and presented a proclamation to be signed by the County Judge proclaiming April to be Child Abuse Awareness Month. She asked if flags could be put out on the Courthouse lawn at 2 p.m. and then to have a ceremony inside the Courthouse at 3 p.m. on Friday. Her request was granted. --TJ Cummings and Amy Glenn, representing the Eastland County AgriLife Extension office, presented a video showcasing 4-H events, including hunter safety, throughout the last year. Many of the activities shown were by the Highway 6 4-H group. Mr. Cummings reported that they are in the process of creating a new club in Carbon. The membership in 4-H has doubled, and they have about 128 student members. They participate in district and state events and contests. There are also more adult volunteers. The commissioners and courtroom visitors were duly impressed with the presentation and the dedication of the students and adult volunteers.
