Delburt Schaefer was a gifted Cisco athlete who was QB of two winning football teams—1958 and 1959. He started on defense as a freshman, and was All-District in five sports his senior year, winning him a football scholarship to Texas Tech. His Freshman year at Tech they went undefeated. His teammate for 7 years in Cisco, Charles Lipsey, was also on that team.
Delburt Schaefer left Tech and finished his Bachelors at McMurry, and returned to Cisco as a teacher and coach. Although he was an assistant under Manning Davis either during or after his stint as Junior High Coach, his expertise as a QB aided him in having success not only as a player but as a coach.
