My name is Jason Whetstone, and I am running for Mayor of Cisco.
My parents raised my brother and I to love and serve people around us. Throughout my life, I have always tried to be generous to people and to serve other people. I believe that Jesus showed His love for people by serving their needs regardless of whether it was convenient or comfortable for Himself.
Unfortunately, there are people at every level of government, from cities and schools to states and nations, who place their own personal agendas ahead of what is best for the people around them. There has been a growing unwillingness by members of leadership to engage with people who disagree with them or don’t have the same beliefs. That is not me. I welcome community engagement. I believe that the only way that we can move past division and offense is to sit down together and have difficult, awkward conversations. If I am elected Mayor of Cisco, I promise to do that. I will be available to engage with any and all citizens of Cisco, regardless of where you live, what your name is, or whether or not we agree on an issue. I also know that there has been a lot of division regarding the need for the Cisco Development Corporation. Some citizens believe that the Corporation does a great job for our city and want to see what they can achieve in the future, and some believe that it should be done away with altogether. I sit on the board of directors for both entities of the Development Corporation, so let me share a couple of statistics with you. Since 2020 projects supported by the Development Corporation have created over 120 jobs. In 2023 alone this translated to $3.5 million in workers’ earnings. The Development Corporation worked directly with Cisco Safe to finance Legacy Park and are in the process of building permanent restrooms at the Cisco Zoo Trails. In addition, due to the work of the Development Corporation and its Executive Director, Justin Jaworski, they were able to continue working with businesses and projects when the City of Cisco experienced its financial shortfall. I have enjoyed being a part of the Cisco Development Corporation’s board of directors and I am excited to see all of the projects that we are working on to come to fruition!
