Letter to Editor 1994 the year of the great idea Families of Cisco, In 1994 your parents and grandparents voted on a new financial plan for their city. This plan had potential and the dream of bringing great rewards of jobs and tax revenue. They voted to give half of the city’s yearly sales tax revenue to the new Cisco Development Corporation (CDC). The CDC was going to bring great new businesses and jobs to Cisco. With hope of bringing lots of new tax revenue to the city to pay for all our streets, water and sewer. They hoped this would give our town the extra revenue to grow and build a clean and modern city.
The plan has been in place now for 31 years. They had high hopes and expectations for the town and your future home. The streets and water lines are old and in disrepair now after all these years of hope. The city is barely financially stable today. And has no extra money to start repairing our streets and critical infrastructure.
If you are 48 years old or younger you did not get to vote in 1994 on how you wanted to invest half your sales tax. You are now our crucial families with children in our schools. Just like your parents you deserve the right to vote on how half your tax revenue is spent. It is your time to call and ask your Cisco city council to place a vote on the November 2025 ballot to Terminate the existence of the Cisco Development Corporation and its funding in its entirety. Returning half of your tax revenue to the city so they can start a budget to begin the repair of our streets and water mains finally. Let the city council know you want to have your constitutional right to vote on this issue. This is money we can use now. Not continue hoping for another 31 years that the CDC will help the children in the future. Everyone should have a chance to vote their choice on this important issue.
