Herrera leads Mavs to 2nd in Albany

By Tommy Wells Sammy Herrera continued to dominate on the track this past Thursday. The Eastland High School standout ran to two gold medals and helped spur the Mavericks to a second-pllace finish in the team standings at the Roaring Lion Relays.

Backed Herrera’s wins, Eastland rolled up 130 points and finished just 5.33 points behind Cisco in the boys’ standings.

Herrera kicked off his double-gold effort by winning the 3,200-meter run, He turned in a winning time of 10 minutes, 31.02 seconds. He added his second win by running away with the 1,600-meter title. He posted a time of 4:51.00 in the 4-lap race.
