TAMPA, Florida — The Ranger College baseball team held a practice on Feb. 6, 2025, ahead of their scheduled games during a trip to Florida. The practice included a visit from Chris Kean, a former player and Ranger College alumnus, now turned professional. Kean, who played for the Rangers in 2021 and 2022, is known for his leadership While speaking to the team, Kean reminded players that he had once been in their position. He expressed gratitude for his time at Ranger College and his JUCO baseball experience. Kean urged the team to aim for the level he’s currently playing at, stressing that not doing so would mean selling themselves short. He also encouraged players to appreciate the friendships formed in college and to value the time they have now. Kean emphasized that coaches are committed to helping them become the best versions of themselves, adding that he is thankful for his own coaches, especially those at Ranger College.
During his time at Ranger College, Kean played under Coaches Scott Norwood, now athletic director, Dalton Rodriguez, now head coach, and Garrett Harrison. Thomas Barnhart said that after Kean’s talk, his former coaches recalled how seriously Kean approached practice, weight training, preparation, and academics. Kean also took detailed notes on his at-bats, work on the mound, and advice from peers and coaches. Those small details made a significant difference in Kean’s development and success, ie-level affiliate of the Yankees, and has since been pro moted to the Tampa Tarpons, a Single-A affiliate. Coaches nificance of Kean returning to meet with his former team, eventually earning him a spot in the New York Yankees organization.
