This is the season we can expect rain one morning, a dust storm later. We natives have learned to be prepared.
Eastland County citizen’s were prepared for this Milestone: Old Rip Unentombment Day, Monday, Feb. 27 at the County Courthouse, the official salute to OLD RIP, the native horned toad that has been buried for 105 years, and the yearly salute to one of our native creatures.
The public was invited and a large crowd came to pay respects to, pardon me, the “legend” of horned toad that was unofficially, but cleverly entombed in the corner stone of the County Courthouse before it was sealed many years ago. Legend has it that the common toad slept for years before “passing.”
