December 19, 2024, Eastland Texas – Dan Baker, RN of Eastland Memorial Hospital was recently honored with The DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The nomination submitted read, “Dan Baker has been there for our family on numerous occasions as we have had to use the emergency services at Eastland Memorial Hospital. On each occasion, he has been very calm, professional, and comforting. On one occasion, we had to bring a very weak family member to the emergency room, Dan met us outside at our car and literally fully supported our family member’s body to get him into the emergency room. Dan assisted the family member through the waiting room doors and into the care area because he could see that the situation required not forms, get registered, etc. Dan was then an important advocate for the family member to get care above and beyond what was normal for that situation. Our family has no doubt that we will receive the best of care if we have to make an emergency room visit because of Dan Baker and other competent medical personnel in the emergency room .” DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.
