Letter to the Editor

Editor, Gender neutral language There has been discussion concerning 'gender neutral' language in Eastland County Personnel Policy. Upon investigation, I have learned that the language change recommendation came from the Human Resource (HR) Department of the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). I have found no evidence of a 'woke' agenda among the Commissioners Court nor County Officers.

HR consultants advise counties on employee policies. The HR manager at TAC is certified by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHMR). The Society describes itself as 'the foremost THOUGHT LEADER (emphasis mine) on issues impacting today's evolving workplace.' SHMR which offers 'GLOBAL STANDARD CERTIFICATION' is active in 165 countries.

Numerous quotes from material for HR people are disturbing. 'Avoid using 'preferred' or 'chosen' in the context of gender pronouns. Using either word suggests that gender identity is a preference or a choice, WHEN IT IS NEITHER.' What 'thought leader' decided that for us?
