The Eastland Centennial Memorial Library finished our third week of programming last week. Elizabeth Kahura performed her “African Storyteller” program at the library. We had 73 people attend. The participants got to sing, dance and play musical instruments. She finished with a wonderful story that involved a rabbit, many big animals, a frog and an animal that had invaded her home. This program was sponsored by Jayton and Roxanne Bailey.
Our last program is on Thursday, June 27th. It is STEAM Day at the Library. We will have activities that include science, robotics, art and engineering. This is a come and go event. It will be from 11:00 - 12:30 so that the participants will have a chance to do several activities. This program is geared for students in first to fifth grades. STEAM day is sponsored by Kennedy Financial Services. Kennedy Financial Services is a regular contributor to our library and we appreciate them also sponsoring our summer programming.
Prizes: Everyone from 1 year old to 18 years old is eligible to read for prizes. For every seven days a participant reads or listens to someone read to them, they will get a free ice cream coupon (while supplies last), a brag tag (while supplies last), and an entry form to add to the drawing of the prize of their choice. Dairy Queen has graciously provided the ice cream coupons. They also get an entry form when they attend an event. Come by the library to pick up the official bookmark that is set up to keep track of reading. McDonald’s has provided coupons for free hamburgers for children who read 10 books. Pick up the McDonald coupons at the library.
