Eastland County Retired Teachers met Monday, May 13 at Eastland Park for a memorial picnic honoring the late Keith Watkins. Mr. Watkins served as Superintendent of Eastland ISD and was also a member of ECRT. He was instrumental in reporting the most recent actions of the Texas Legislature as pertained to retired teachers.
Delicious hamburgers and the trimmings were furnished by Mae’s Meat Market. Those in attendance enjoyed the food and fellowship as well as the spring like weather of the park.
In the park itself sits a “golden lion” which is dedicated to Captain William Mosley Eastland, who in 1836 fought in the battle of San Jacinto for Texas Indpendence. In 1858 Eastland County was created and named after him.
