Mary Alice Applin Miner, 90, of Gorman, Texas, walked into the arms of Jesus on February 13, 2024, attended by family and her caregiver.
She was born on May 10, 1933, to Dan and Mary Applin. She grew up in West Texas, west of San Angelo. She went to Howard Payne University, graduating with a degree in education. She taught kindergarten and elementary grades during her long career.
In 1956, she married Read Miner, a young navigator in the Air Force stationed near the school where she was teaching. They had four children and spent several years with the Air Force in Japan and then Biloxi, Mississippi. Upon leaving the Air Force, they lived in Cross Plains, Raymondville and Seguin, before moving to Gorman. She taught kindergarten for so long that she taught her original students’ children. She loved to sing hymns, gospel songs and old folk songs that she had learned from both her mother and father. She was a people watcher and would talk to anyone because she loved people.
