Charles “Chuck” Preston Chick, Jr. passed away at his home in Cisco on January 18, 2024. Chuck was born in Abilene, Texas to Charles Preston Chick, Sr. of Gonzales County, Texas and Ina Beatrice Cox Chick of Mertzon in Irion County, Texas on December 8, 1937. Chuck grew up in Cisco, Texas.
After his father’s passing from a cattle truck hauling accident in 1955, Chuck followed his father’s passion for trucking at the age of 18 to support his family. He began his truck driving career with C.B. Chaney & Son Butane Company out of Eastland. He quickly exhibited a strong work ethic. Chaney later wrote a recommendation letter stating: “I would like to make this statement, and it is that I have never known a more loyal, honest, trustworthy person than C.P. Chick Jr., and his character is above reproach.”
Chuck graduated from Cisco High School in Cisco, Texas. His mother “Bea” encouraged him in school to learn to type and use a typewriter. By 1960, Chuck proudly joined the United State Army. He was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas and Korea. When he arrived in Korea, his platoon was asked if anyone could type. Being honest, he was the only member of the platoon who raised their hand and it set off a year of clerical work that ultimately insulated him from any conflict.
