John King Brittain, 86, of Eastland, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at Eastland Memorial Hospital. John was born July 21, 1936, in Wakita, Oklahoma to Claude and Caroline King Brittain. He was raised in Oklahoma and graduated from Gore High School in Gore, Oklahoma. John married Mollie Taylor November 3, 1956, in Odessa, Texas.
John and Mollie moved to Eastland from Sonora in 1986 after their three sons graduated from Sonora High School. John owned and operated Brittain Construction while they lived in Sonora. Once they settled on their farm south of Eastland, John began farming and ranching. He loved being out in the field on his tractor. He also raised Brangus cattle. John loved tending to his animals and caring for his land. John enjoyed traveling and participating with his family in tractor pulls all over the country. They spent a lot of quality family time together at tractor pulls. John served as President of the Texas Tractor Pullers Association for many years. John and Mollie are long time members of Mangum Baptist Church. John was a devoted husband, and loving father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Mollie; sons, Jerry Brittain and wife, Marsha; Howard Brittain and wife, Penny, and Jeff Brittain and wife, Austina; grandchildren, Steffanie, Lindsey, Hannah and fiancé, Grey Grote, Megan, Trent and Jayden; great-grandchildren, Madilyn, Cooper, Carissa and Carson; brother, Stephen Brittain; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. John has been reunited with his parents, Claude and Caroline; and two brothers, Jerry Ray and Houston.
