A deadly vehicle crash on Interstate Highway 20, 1 mile west of Eastland occurred Friday, Feb. 3 at 4:21 p.m. Texas Department of Public Safety reported.
One vehicle, 2019, a Kia Sorento – 4 door mid-size sports utility vehicle, was involved in the crash. The driver, Jawuan Nalick Mullins, a 29 years of age male from Edinburg, Texas was pronounced dead 2/3/23 at 5:16 p.m. by Dr. Robert Curtis. He was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger, Seth Savage Slayton, 29 years of age male of Plano, Texas, was transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital with Non-incapacitating injury.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of Vehicle 1 was fleeing from a Cisco police officer, unlawfully evading arrest, or detention, east on Interstate Highway (IH) 20. The driver of Vehicle 1, fleeing from the officer, drove into the center median of IH-20 over-corrected attempting to steer back toward the roadway. Vehicle 1 traveled across the eastbound lanes of IH20, across the median between IH-20 and the access road, and across the access roadway into the barrow ditch where it overturned striking a fence and light pole.
