The Gorman Lady Panthers garnered double-digit efforts from Mariella Rodriguez, Hadli Hampton and Delila Crain on Friday and rolled to an impressive 40-33 come-frombehind victory over Stamford in non-district basketball action. The win marked the seventh time this season the Lady Panthers have defeated a program from a Class 2A or higher program. Stamford, which is coached by former Strawn mentor Joe Crabb, got off to a fast start. The Lady Bulldogs posted a 12-9 run in the first eight minutes of the contest.
Gorman’s defense took over from there. Stamford managed just seven points in the second and went into the half trailing 21-19. The GHS defense continued to torment Stamford in the third. The Lady Panthers yielded just six points in the frame, paving the way for Rodriguez and Hampton to guide Gorman to a 31-25 lead at the start of the fourth. Rodriguez and Hampton both finished with 11 points. Crain added 10. Kayla Falco narrowly missed scoring into double figures as well. She tallied eight.
Gorman, now 16-2 overall, added to its win total with a dominating 49-23 romp over Hico on Dec. 5. The Lady Panthers started with a 10-4 run in the first quarter and never looked back. They finished off the victory with a staggering 29-8 run in the second half.
