Don’t we all often wish “things were like they used to be?”
And in most cases, it shouldn’t be— because in spite of all the heartache, wars, political turmoil, etc. that we live with today— now honestly think about it— there’s a lot of toil, crime, and far too many ‘mis-said words’ it’s surely a heck of a better time than it once was.
For instance there was a time we could get on a train (MKT) in Carbon where we bought a ticket at the MKT depot which was a permanent fixture there with Agent Dewy Adair on duty. Not secret: there was a time when (confession coming up) I was once in love with his daughter Elvenor (so there—go ahead and confess the names of all the girls you were once in love with)… by the way the train we get on eventually wound up in Cisco— mother would do grocery shopping and maybe get a quick look at the J.C. Penney store and I’d pick up a new model airplane kit to build at Mott’s store— all day quick lunch standing up at the one cafes on the corner— Hurry, we got to catch the Doodle Bug going back east and our trip home with our arms full of stuff we couldn’t find at Carbon Trading Co. but all else came from that general store which also offered feed, and a whole lot of EVERYTHING else we could afford.
